Diabetes Ireland have received numerous calls re Covid-19 and attending social gatherings or academic/work events.
The advice for people with diabetes is to take all precautionary measures as outlined on https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/protect-yourself.html , to maintain good glucose control, eat a balanced healthy diet, maintain physical activity outdoors where possible and ensure they have a sick day regime in hard copy so that they can maintain glucose control if unwell.
Dr Clarke stated “regular glucose testing will help people to identify a rise in glucose levels which is often the first sign of an infection. Early recognition of a potential problem will alert the person to use their sick day regime to regain glucose control. In this manner, their body has maximum ability to fight any infection”.
