Living with Type 1 Diabetes requires constant vigilance and a strong sense of self-determination every day with no holiday from the condition. This is where a good support group of your peers in your local community can greatly help to provide comfort and up-to-date information. Galway’s new Type 1 Diabetes Support Group invites adults in the local Diabetes community to get involved and come along to the next meeting:

Grainne Flynn comments ”Living 23 years with Type 1 Diabetes and regularly attending Type 1 Support meetings, I gain so much new information and insights at the meetings and there is nothing like meeting other people who are dealing with the same diabetes challenges. The meetings keep me motivated to stay disciplined with my diabetes”
Dr Esther O’Sullivan, Consultant Endocrinologist in The Galway Clinic and Consultant Physician in UHG & Dr Derek O’Keeffe, Specialist Registrar in Diabetes, University Hospital Galway are speaking at the meeting and will outline the various technologies that are being used and are in the pipeline for the management of Type 1 Diabetes. Abbott Laboratories recently launched a new glucose sensor called the FreeStyle Libre, now available to buy in Ireland, and they will demonstrate the device and take questions.
