Keynote Topic Details
People with diabetes have a higher risk of developing mental health problems related to their diagnosis. In addition to increased rates of depression, anxiety and eating disorder, people with diabetes can experience psychological barriers to optimal diabetes management, such as fear of hypoglycaemia, needle phobia and burnout from the day-to-day demands of condition management.
Dr Doherty will address these issues and examine the evidence for an association between common mental health conditions and diabetes, and the shared pathways for the development of these conditions. She will also touch on the latest research for the treatment of these conditions together and will outline self-help strategies which may be useful.
