Structured education course for Type 2 & Pre-diabetes  

CODE is Diabetes Ireland’s  group education programme for people with Type 2 Diabetes or diagnosed Pre-diabetes.  CODE aims to deliver general information about diabetes self-management in a local community group setting. CODE allows people with diabetes to talk in a supportive atmosphere about their own diabetes. Time is allocated during the programme for problem solving, feedback on diabetes self management behaviours and goal setting.

The programme is facilitated by Ms. Elaine Newell, Diabetes Nurse Specialist  and consists of 4 sessions of 2 hour duration.  The first 3 sessions take place over 3 consecutive weeks Westside Community Resource Centre, Seamus Quirke Road, Galway.

Week 1: Wednesday  September  12^th  from   10 am – 12:30 pm

Week 2:  Wednesday  September 19^th  from    10 am – 12 midday

Week 3:  Wednesday  September 26^th  from   10 am – 12 midday

Review Session:  Wednesday  February 27^th  2019  from 10 am – 12 midday

CODE is free of charge.

Topics covered in CODE include diabetes explained, risk factors, signs and symptoms, healthy eating, physical activity, personal goal setting, complications and the necessity of regular follow up and the importance of optimal diabetes control. The six month session looks at the review of achievements and personal goal setting. Our flexible approach allows the sessions to be tailored to meet the self identified needs of each group.
