Interactive Support Workshop – Sligo Type 1

Diabetes Ireland are hosting a high quality interactive support workshop for people living with Type 1 diabetes in the Clayton Hotel, Clarion Road, Sligo on Wednesday 10th April from 7:00pm – 9:30pm.
The evening will consist of two workshops facilitated by diabetes experts and more importantly the format will allow for participants to hear from each other on how they manage their condition on a daily basis.
Workshop 1
Managing Type 1 Diabetes on a daily basis
Facilitated by Diabetes Nurse Specialist Ms Ann Ferguson Sligo University Hospital & Dietitian Ms Lisa Kelly Sligo University Hospital.
This workshop will cover topics such as, managing hypos, exercising with Type 1 diabetes, glycaemic index of foods, alcohol and its effect on blood glucose levels and the importance of carbohydrate counting. You will have an opportunity to ask questions of the diabetes health professionals in a supportive environment and seek support from others living with Type 1 diabetes.
Workshop 2
Emotional Support and Wellbeing with Type 1 diabetes
Facilitated by Psychologist Kate Gajewska.
This workshop will allow you to explore your feeling around living with Diabetes and reflect on your coping skills in a supportive and informal environment. You will have an opportunity to give feelings about diabetes a common language, how to recognise and avoid diabetes distress/burnout and identify coping mechanisms for diabetes stress. The workshops will be in small groups, so you can seek support from other adults living with Diabetes.
