A Galway based Your Diabetes Clinic Study recruiting young adults, between 18 and 30, with type 1 diabetes to complete a questionnaire.
Getting and staying in touch with an adult diabetes clinic is an important part of self-management for young adults with type 1 diabetes. From tests and screening to education and support, the diabetes clinic can be a useful resource.
This is all true, but between work, college, exams and travel, it can be tricky for young adults to stay in contact with their diabetes clinic and to get to their appointments. For people who have to move from paediatric to adult diabetes clinics, it’s not always easy to get used to visiting a new clinic in a new place with new people.
We don’t know that much about what makes young adults go to their clinic appointments, or why they miss appointments, sometimes for a long period of time. In this project, we are asking young adults aged between 18 and 30, with type 1 diabetes, to complete a questionnaire to collect their views and experiences of hospital-based diabetes clinics. On our website you can find out more about the project, the studies which brought us to this point in the research, and make contact with the research team.
