Keeping up with diabetes technology developments that are transforming the lives of people living with Diabetes

Diabetes Technology Network Ireland (DTN Ireland), in collaboration with Diabetes Ireland, is hosting a free technology meeting in the Clayton Hotel, Lapps Quay, Cork City on Tuesday 25th March at 6pm.

The meeting is for people living with Type 1 diabetes and their families to learn about the various technologies such as continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), insulin pumps and hybrid closed-loop systems that are currently available in Ireland.

With the landscape of diabetes technology changing so quickly, it can be difficult to keep up to date on developments so this is a great opportunity for attendees to inform themselves about the technology and how it will enable them to manage their condition more effectively.

Dr Tomas Griffin, Consultant Physician, Galway University Hospital and DTN (Ireland) who will be presenting on this important topic on the night said “our aim is to empower attendees to make informed decisions about diabetes technology in collaboration with their diabetes care team, choosing options that best meet clinical needs and lifestyle preferences”.

Also presenting on the night will be Dr Eoin O’Sullivan, Consultant Endocrinologist, Bons Secour Hospital, Cork on the most common barriers to achieving good control with diabetes technology and Ms Shirley Beattie, Clinical Specialist Dietitian in Diabetes, Cork University Hospital will be speaking on the benefits of technology when managing both nutrition and exercise. Attendees will also learn about the latest global Type 1 Diabetes research developments funded by Breakthrough T1D.

This is the second of a series of similar meetings that will be held around the country this year and I would urge people with Type 1 diabetes to come along on the night. For further information, visit www.diabetes.ie added Dr Griffin.
