A joint venture between Mayo PCCC, HSE West, Mayo General Hospital, Croí, and Diabetes Ireland will see the month of November designated as Mayo Diabetes Awareness Month. This Diabetes Awareness Campaign, which is a first for Mayo, aims to raise awareness about diabetes, and to communicate key messages on how to recognise, prevent and or manage diabetes.
One of the key messages of this campaign is early detection.
Be aware of the signs and symptoms of diabetes and your risk factors for developing diabetes.
We are encouraging people to assess their own risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes by completing the attached ‘Type 2 Diabetes Adult Risk Assessment’ chart and if your score is in the high category, visit your GP for a check-up.
A number of free public information events will take place during November. Admission is free to all events and all are welcome.
- Castlebar: Harlequin Hotel, Thursday November 6th @ 7pm
- Ballina: Twin Trees Hotel, November 13th @7pm
- Mayo General Hospital: Diabetes Awareness Day, Friday November 14th, 10am – 4pm
