Diabetes Ireland held a Type 2 ‘Ask the Experts’ public meeting on the 7th of March in Hannons Hotel, Roscommon.
There was a lot of interest in the meeting and we welcomed a full house on the night. During the meeting, four healthcare professionals held a questions and answers session with those in the audience. The attendees split into four small groups and the experts spent 15 minutes talking to each group. This gave the audience a chance to ask questions about their diabetes in a relaxed, informal setting.
The four experts who took part on the night were:
- Catriona Rourke– Senior Podiatrist Roscommon University Hospital
- Niamh Feeney– Community Dietitian
- Margaret Kelly– Advanced Nurse Practitioner in diabetes Roscommon University Hospital
- Dr Esther O’Sullivan– Consultant Endocrinologist Roscommon University Hopital

The meeting was a huge success and was enjoyed by both experts and the audience. Some of the positive feedback we received from the night included:
“Thanks a million. The best meeting I ever attended in any aspect in almost 50 years”
and
” The participation of each person with the individual speaker at the table was very informative”
This public meeting was sponsored by a grant from the HSE National Lottery and Ascencia Diabetes Care. Barbara Muldoon from Ascencia Diabetes Care attended on the night. Ascencia had a busy exhibition stand to update glucometres for members of the audience who needed them.
