The goal is to enhance bone quality for people with diabetes, but findings may also help people experiencing diabetes complications such as kidney disease, nerve damage, heart disease, and vision loss. This project focuses on developing stem cell-based therapy for the treatment of osteoporosis which is a health complication of Diabetes.  They use tissue samples taken during routine hip replacements to understand the differences between healthy and diabetes bone marrow cells responsible for maintaining bone health in the hope of replacing molecules missing in the diabetes cells making them more similar to healthy cells.
